Know Before You Go

How do I prepare for an infrared sauna session?

Be sure to hydrate for an increase in core body temperature and wait at least 60 minutes after eating a meal before starting your session.

What do I wear?

It's recommended to wear as little as possible to enable the infrared to penetrate as deep as possible. Gym shorts or swimwear are perfect options. You will be in your own private room and we'll provide a bamboo carbon towel that can be worn as a wrap. The bamboo carbon towel absorbs sweat while allowing infrared rays to pass through. Shoes and footwear are not permitted to be worn inside the sauna.

When will I start sweating?

Everyone's sweat levels are different. Don't be surprised if you don't sweat during the first few sessions. Sweating will increase with regular use. Even if your body is not drenched in sweat, your body is still detoxifying and reaping the health benefits. 

Anything I should do post-sauna session?

Drink at least 24 ounces of water or an electrolyte drink to replenish and stay hydrated. 

How often should I use the infrared sauna?

One session will leave you feeling fresh and rejuvenated. But similar to exercise, the more you do it, the better the results. Recommended use is 3-4 times per week. We recommend our 30-minute workout followed by a sauna session.

Are children allowed to use the sauna?

When taking a sauna session with a child, the treatment should operate at a lower temperature and for no more than 15 minutes at a time. The core body temperature of children rises much faster than adults. A general rule of thumb is 1 minute inside the sauna per year of age for the child, but always accompanied by an adult. And remember to keep you and your child hydrated, even if you don't see them sweating. 

How is the sauna cleaned?

The sauna is cleaned and sanitized between each guest with a fogging device and disinfecting wipes. Sunlighten's infrared heaters are anti-bacterial, anti-mold and anti-germ. Our bamboo carbon towels have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal attributes and they are provided to wear and cover the bench. In addition to being situated in a private room, the door handles are equipped with anti-microbial protection that inhibits the growth of bacteria. Shoes and footwear are not permitted to be worn in the sauna to reduce the spread of germs.

Can I used the sauna while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Even though the sauna is completely safe, it is not recommended to use while pregnant. While pregnant, the core body temperature is already elevated and you could overheat. If you are breastfeeding, you should consult with your physician.

Are there any contraindications for sauna use?

If any of the following apply to you, consult your physician prior to use: pregnant/breastfeeding, have serious inflammation, fever, communicable disease, taking prescription medications, elderly, cardiovascular conditions, alcohol abuse, diseases associated with reduced sweating, hemophiliac/prone to bleeding, joint injury within 48 hours or swelling, implants and pacemaker/defibrillator.
